Rebar constructability not only affects the placement of rebar, but the placement and consolidation of concrete as well.
The Concrete Reinforcing Steel Institute (CRSI) has partnered with ACI PRO and the American Society of Concrete Contractors (ASCC) on a new initiative to improve constructability across the industry. Constructability Data from the Field
In late 2025 through early 2026, CRSI invited industry professionals to share their perspectives through a brief survey. The survey is now complete, and the results are available to view using an interactive dashboard.
These findings will help guide CRSI’s ongoing efforts to simplify and improve the efficiency of steel-reinforced concrete design and construction.

The FORTH Hotel in Atlanta features a striking diagrid facade that pushed the boundaries of steel-reinforced concrete construction. The diagonal columns imparted loads directly into the floor slabs and shifted position at every level, requiring three separate floor plans and careful reinforcement detailing, especially at corners where slab engagement dropped to just 25%. A field mockup helped validate these complex connections before construction began.
The result is an award-winning structure, recognized by the National Council of Structural Engineering Associations, ASCE, and the American Concrete Institute, among others. View Case Study of Forth Hotel.

Constructability Model
CRSI continues to develop the Constructability Visual Design Aid, a tool that generates dimensionally accurate 2D cross-sections of reinforced concrete members from user-provided geometry and reinforcement input, and automatically flags constructability issues in the reinforcement layout.
The Beam Module is now well developed, with columns and beam column joints to follow.
